Monsoon Forecast 2026: IMD Predicts Above-Normal Rainfall Across India

The India Meteorological Department has released its monsoon forecast for 2026, predicting above-normal rainfall across most parts of the country. The forecast brings relief to farmers who rely heavily on monsoon rains for agricultural production.

According to the IMD, the La Nina weather pattern is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon, bringing adequate rainfall to drought-prone regions in western and central India. However, the department has also warned of potential flood risks in northeastern states.

Agricultural experts say the positive monsoon outlook could boost crop production significantly, potentially leading to lower food prices and improved rural economic activity. State governments have been advised to prepare infrastructure for both optimal water harvesting and flood management.
